Modern Symbolism: Actions & Accumulations of Actions Exhibition

Entry Rules

INTRODUCTION: Modern Symbolism: Actions & Accumulations of Actions exhibition is scheduled for Friday, November 21– Saturday, December 20, 2008. The purpose of the exhibition is to offer local student artists the opportunity to exhibit at the Museum, enhancing the cultural climate of our city and region.

ELIGIBILITY: The exhibition is open to regional college students. Entries must be works that have been created within the last two years. This is a juried exhibition; not all applicants will be accepted for the exhibition. Artists will be notified by email of their acceptance status on Wednesday, October 29th, 2008.

ART WORKS: Up to five original works done by a student artist in any medium may be submitted for entry. Multiple works in a series will not be accepted as one entry; however, work fitting the traditional definition of a diptych or triptych will be admissible. The work must have been created within the last two years. Work should not exceed 72” in any direction or weigh more than 150 lbs.

ENTRIES: Entries must be submitted in JPEG form through Modernsymbolism.pma@gmail.com The deadline for entries will be Midnight on Thursday, October 23, 2008. It is preferred that all images be of high resolution and should accurately represent your artwork. Accepted work may be subject to a second review at the request of the curatorial team. The curators may decline a work if it does not closely resemble the original JPEG submitted to the competition. Entries can be submitted to:

DROP OFF: All works accepted into the exhibition can be dropped off Sunday, November 16 and Monday, November 17, from 12-4 pm. Work must be properly framed, labeled, and ready for hanging. Because storage space is limited no works can be accepted before the designated drop off date.

REGISTRATION: Works of art will be properly inspected for damage and registered upon arrival at the Museum. A receipt will be given. The Museum will take all care possible for the safety of the works; however, it assumes no liability for loss or damage. The PMA or UWF will not be responsible for any damage incurred during transit of works nor any cost for transportation of works. Each artist is responsible for the cost and safety of delivering and picking up works of art.

REMOVAL OF WORKS: No works may be removed during the exhibit. Pickup of all work is Sunday, December 21 and Monday, December 22, 12 – 4 p.m. All unclaimed work will automatically become property of the Museum.

PHOTOGRAPHY: The Museum reserves the right to utilize entry images for the purpose of promotion and publicity for any work accepted into the exhibition.

RECEPTION: The Opening Reception will be held in conjunction with Gallery Night on Friday, November 21st from 6 to 8 p.m.

EXHIBITION THEME: In a fast paced society, recognizable symbols act as a powerful tool to communicate ideas. This exhibition focuses on the critique of modern symbolism through actions and accumulations of actions with an emphasis on the influence of Jasper Johns.
